As is stated in the Bible, prophet Abraham and his wife Sara were from Urfa, in modern day Turkey. Prophet Abraham also sent for his son Isaac and grandson Jacob to get married from his own people in Urfa (or Harran) as opposed to the canaanite people where they were living.

Could this have any significance for Jewish identity? Because in Judaism ethnicity is passed through the mother. If this were the case Judaism’s homeland would be Turkey. And couldnt this be reason for respect towards people of this Land?

So Jews leave the door open, for legend has it that Elijah can come to you at any time, even right now.

What is jewish identity? What does it mean for a jewish person to have that identity? Why is there such a thing as a jewish identity? Is it because of the history or other things? How is the feeling of jewish identity being created by a jew?

A Jewish identity is, simply, the fact that one identifies themselves with the Jewish population of the world, or more specifically, as a Jew themselves. It means that they feel that they are Jewish, either via religion, culture or both, and that they associate themselves with Jewish roots.

Why is there such thing? Well, why is there a black identity? A native identity? A hispanic identity? Being a Jew means that you are affiliated with a group that has existed for thousands of years and has a specific culture and/or religious choice. Perhaps it has grown stronger throughout history, because Jews lived, in many cases, in places where they were persecuted, discriminated against and hated, and it was only by associating with other Jews that they could keep safe, and that by overcoming the odds they felt even more proud to be a Jew.

Being a Jew means being part of a society that has overcome genocide, mass discrimination and attempted conversion for thousands of years and yet you still stand here today. You are part of a group that the Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans, Christians, Muslims, Germans, and countless other groups throughout history tried to exterminate by any means neccesary, and yet you are still here and still Jewish.

I’m guessing you are anti-zionist, whatever floats your boat. However, I hope you know that the Haredim in Israel are some of the most ardent opponents of any negotiations with Arabs or coexistence with other religions while the more secular Israeli community is always open for negotiations and peaceful coexistence with anyone.

You should ask the Haredim why they hate non-orthodox Jews and dont even consider them Jews at all, that is until they build a country for them to safely live in. By your logic, the moderate Muslim community should also listen to its right wing "pious" radicals who believe that any Muslim who doesn’t kill the nonbeliever should be stoned.

for example, there are various methods used by the nazis to determine weather a person’s jewish or not such as measuring their nose, sideburns, and if the male penis is circumcised. Also they could check their birth records and synagogue records. However, let’s say if a jew who didn’t have the typical "jewish" look such as having a large nose and brown hair. If he also changed his name into a German sounding name and moved into another province in germany, as he also start attending a catholic church, do you think that the nazis will still find out that he is in fact jewish? Yes. actually there was a famous case like this. Hitlerjunge Salomon (Hitler Youth Salomon).
A Jewish boy who actually posed as a ‘real’ German and joined the Hiler Youth to survive the Holocaust. He lives in israel now.

i was wondering if their is a concept of nationhood how does this impact on that persons identity in relation to the country they live and how much that.
