I’m not sure it’s actually happening anymore. I was all excited and then realized it’s a bit strange that almost nobody knows about it.

Apparently Sephardic ultra-orthodox people are protesting the Israeli Supreme Court’s decision that they cannot ban Ashkenazi ultra-orthodox children from their schools.

I don’t get it… usually, judaism seems like a fairly tolerant and thoughtful faith.

Why are these particular jewish people so full of hatred that they don’t even want the children of other ultra-orthodox Jewish people to associate with their own children?

Why are their hearts so filled with hatred and anger?

What is the state of Israel doing to re-educate these hateful people?
I got that backwards… the Ashkenazim are protesting the Sephardim.

One should not be so naive as to believe everything s/he reads. There are two issues, one real the other in the press. The school in question is 70% Ashkenazi and 30% Sephardi. The "Sephardim" that they are trying to keep out are not as religious as the Ashkenazim and the issues that casued the school to distance itself from them include

1 – Improper dress – Israel "Ultra"-Orthodox have very strict dress codes and these girls were not following them.

2 – "Foreign" Influence – again the actual issues might seem minor to someone from outside the community of Haredim, however when it comes to what the girls talk about, there were issues that the ultra community did not want to hear.

Anger and hatred were not directed against the girls. The ultra parents just wanted to be left alone to raise the children accordign to their standards. They were directed against the activist parents who wanted to force girls of a more liberal background into their lives.

There is a flip side. The parents who wanted to send their daughters to the ultra school considered themselves too religous to attend the standard religious state-run school!

This is Israel, not the USA where the problems would have been resolved in a more mild environment.

btw: I am an Ashkenazi-Sephardi mixed breed myself.

The reason I ask this, is as this is (quite rightly in my opinion) the case for anyone who is jewish, it should be right for Muslims to be able to use Sharia courts, where it does not conflict with UK law.

And anyone can use ACAS or a number of other dispute resolution and reconciliation services. And these are only binding in civil law if both parties agree beforehand that they will be.

Could it be that some people have a slightly different agenda which has nothing to do with people’s rights to settle non-criminal disagreements in any way they wish?

None of these mechanisms have any place in our Criminal Justice system nor should they ever.

Yet in a previous question he recommended to us a BNP policy to close down mosques where any of the members were SUSPECTED of terrorist links (but not churches, synagogues or temples); and a "review" (meaning "ban") on the building of mosques (but not churches, synagogues or temples).

Added later. Ops, completely misread your question. Errol Morris did a documentary about a holocaust denier, who also developed electric chairs for capital punishment. You’re probably thinking of David Irving.

b) Next I would ask her if she has really seen the Jewish boy throwing the ball.

c) I would ask the boys (if both are in the show) to tell their version of the story, or only ask the non-jewish boy (if only he is in the show) for his version of the story. After the boy/s say/s that the non-Jewish boy threw the rubber ball I would tell them that it is never a very good idea to play ballgames near a window, no matter if you’re the catcher or the thrower and that they were both acting a little irresponsible anyway and that they both should apologize for breaking the window in. Audience will show empathy for the boys, who apologize so nicely, even though that lady is such a horrible racist.

d) I would ask the shopkeeper if she might have prejudices against Jews and therefore might only imagine to have seen the Jewish boy throwing the ball. I would also ask her why she is only accusing one boy instead of both and why it is important to her that one of them is Jewish. Her answer will most probably expose herself completely as being a racist. Audience will hate racist woman >> first booh-calls.

d) After her answer I would ask the policeman for his version of the story and ask him for his personal opinion about the happenings and if he would trust more the angry woman or the Jewish boy. Because the policeman is not a racist, he will probably trust the boy’s version of the story more than the shopkeeper’s version.

e) with everyone (policeman, audience, you) on the Jewish boy’s side you can kick the lady’s ass (metaphorically) and fully expose her racism by a brief conclusion of the results of this discussion

f) tell woman that she has to think about her political opinions and should get rid her prejudices

g) tell Jewish boy that he should better learn to catch a ball

h) tell non-Jewish boy that he should better learn to throw a ball (in the right direction)

i) everyone happy >> go eat some popsicle

Yes, some do usually from and organization called CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations).
CAIR’s is seen as a bit more biased than ADL stuff by most.
The "PeaceKeepers" a Christian Police bible study group also produces a lot of free police training information on dealing with fundamentalists Christian groups.

The group most used as a resource on hate crimes/groups by police/police instructors is SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center). They have excellent fairly unbiased and deep information on most groups, no matter what religion, race or ethnicity, that espouse violence and hate of others not the same as them

My very large department has it own in house production company that produces training films on dealing with all religious, ethnic and other groups that have a special outlook on life.

But Jews aren’t specifically liberal. There’s plenty of conservative Jews.

Even though Rep. Mark Kirk, the Republican from Illinois’ 10th District whom Democrats have long hoped to unseat, touts his pro-Israel record to the large number of Jewish voters in the district, he now has a Jewish challenger in the race who is calling Kirk out of touch with voters, including Jewish ones.

We have huge Israeli lobbies (AIPAC PNAC) and senators with dual citizenship with Israel. Of course there is a conflict of interest. Not to mention the fact the Federal Reserve owns us. And the owners of the fed are unknown private and foreign entities that seem to have ties to Israel.

But not everybody thinks that way. I, for one, certainly don’t think my country is innocent…
