I was reading the following news item and, not being very familiar with traditions/customs of the Jewish religion, I was trying to understand what ceremony this might be? Would a cow slaughtered in such a fashion be considered kosher and ok for human consumption, or was this instead some kind of a sacrifice for religious purposes?
http://www.lohud.com/article/20090505/NEWS03/905050411
That’s very odd. Certainly not something you hear about every day.
My guess is that it was a class in kosher slaughter, and that the intention was to eat the meat (a whole cow is extremely expensive and no one in their right minds would let one go to waste – aside from the fact that judaism does not allow killing animals for fun or sport, so wasting the meat is, if not an outright sin, certainly discouraged). The fact that they said there was no blood is very suspect, though – kosher slaughter and subsequent preparation of the carcass for butchering is an extremely bloody process, as Jews are not permitted to eat blood, so the animal must be allowed to bleed out fully. Which leads me to wonder whether the story itself might be a hoax.
At any rate, there are no Jewish rituals of any kind which require killing animals, other than slaughtering animals for meat. Animal sacrifice was once part of Judaism, but since the second Temple was destroyed almost 2000 years ago, Jews are no longer allowed to sacrifice animals for any reason. Period.
I will be looking out for more information on this – it’s really unusual
edited to add: I’m still digging around for sources besides that one article about the cow actually being slaughtered in the yard. From various message boards it’s looking like they went to a slaughterhouse and brought back the already dead cow to study (either for an anatomy class or for the ins and outs of recognizing if a slaughtered animal is glatt kosher) – it would be impossible to kill a cow in the yard according to jewish law and not have fresh blood found at the scene. The neighbor has a long history of dispute with the yeshiva and could be embellishing her story to the press to try to change zoning laws. The town of Ramapo has been in a fairly long battle between Chassidim and non-Chassidim (both Jews and non-Jews), over zoning rights and the changing character of the community. And as I’m sure you know, when neighbors fight, the gloves tend to come off
For four decades, Israel has pushed to build and expand jewish neighborhoods, while trying to restrict the growth in Arab parts of the city.
I can’t imagine the vitriol that would be packaged as journalism if some southern US state were to, say, subsidize the construction of white neighborhoods and yet refuse permits for private building in overcrowded black neighborhoods. In 2007. It would be the only news for weeks. But it’s Israel, so the New York Times shrugs as usual to avoid reporting the negative side of Israel. In fact most Media outlets here in America avoid it, in fact the News media in Israel is far better because all facts from both sides is reported. People just need to read News from all over these days to decide for themselves.
yes. it’s just because they aren’t judging with equality and reason as their guides, but religion. As much as religion does to unite people it also does to divide people. And that’s what it will do until we all realize that we are all united and connected to eachother- regardless of what a book says.
and i say that as a Jew.

Because the news is not tailored to yours, or anyone Else’s point of view, it is reported as it happens.
I read in the al-jazeera News that an extremest jewish gangs burned a mosque in the conquered Palestine. Should we remain silent and let Allah (aazza wa Jall) to deal with them? or we should make an apprising against them to defend our holy places?

Uh, sorry, but the Jews have a lot better track record than you guys. In addition, they have contributed a vast amount of good to the world..
I would agree, however, that you should remain silent.
Oh, and please point to the place where the "conquered Palestine" exists. What is this nation, what is its flag and where is it on the map? Is it sort of like Hawaii Five-O that also doesn’t exist?

He is an Isreali spy. I would say bad.
Several years ago I was traveling through Israel and got to know an Israeli soldier who was vacationing with his family as well. When my family was leaving he gave me his Star of David necklace and I gave him my cross. I had the necklace tucked away as a keepsake of my friendship. With the recent news from Israel I want to wear the necklace to show my support of Israel and my friend. Would that be considered disrespectful since I am Christian and not jewish?
Not at all; it is a lovely thing to do!!
As an Israeli, I would like to thank you for your support!!
