JFS now offers an outpatient service that addresses chemical dependency problems for both those who are using substances and their families and friends who are adversely affected by that use.

In the year 2000, JFS invited Innovative Health Systems (IHS), practicing 15 years in White Plains, to join in a collaboration to broaden JFS services so as to meet the expanding needs of the county-wide constituency. We are now able to offer a comprehensive array of services to address the varied and very complex needs of alcohol and other substance users.

Certified by the NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), IHS brings with it the extensive chemical dependency experience of its medical director, David Marshall, MD and our resident psychologist, Ross Fishman, PhD Between IHS and JFS, patients and their families and friends will receive appropriate and quality counseling, education, guidance and support.

IHS is affiliated with all the major managed care organizations, with many indemnity programs, and also accepts Medicaid. We work collaboratively with physicians who continue to see patients for the medical complications that often accompany substance misuse and we use Rockland County hospitals and rehabilitation programs whenever possible and appropriate.

We encourage our clients to become familiar with and use a range of self-help fellowships that are available in many of the towns in Rockland. JFS has hosted JACS (Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically dependent persons and Significant others) meetings in the past and would like to create a new group when there is sufficient interest. Please telephone the agency (845-354-2121) and speak with Intake Coordinator, Susan Baxt, if you are interested in working to build a new group.

If you would like to learn more about IHS at JFS, please contact our office to arrange a discussion or meeting with Dr. Fishman.
