People who have strong identities tend to mention their identities.....because that's a strong part of who they are. I have friends who are Italian and Irish, and they are always mentioning the fact that they do this and that because they are Irish or Italian. In America, alot of people don't have strong ethnic identities (being mixed with alot of things), so I could see how that might be strange for them.
References :
Ok. I'll take this seriously.

Seriously?

1. This is quite a generalization based on what sounds like very limited experience.

2. Think about the experience itself.

You meet 100 strangers.

5 of them mention they are Jewish.

95 don't mention anything about their religious identity.

One might think: Oh my gosh. Those 5 Jews mentioned their religious identity. I guess Jews must keep bringing it up.

Or, one might notice: Hmmm 95 people didn't mention anything. Who knows what their religious identity is? Maybe they are ALL Jews who just didn't mention it?

3. And as another poster pointed out, one might ask, "why do Christians / Muslims / African Americans / Greek Americans / Italian Americans / Amway members / Costco members / Red Cross Volunteers / Girl Scout volunteers keep mentioning their identity?

Don't many people mention their identity?
References :
Quite simply we don't unless it's relevant to the conversation.
 Please don't generalise.
References :
I don't tell anyone unless it's particularly pertinent to whatever it is we're talking about. Like if somebody asked me if I celebrate Christmas--I'd say, "No, I'm Jewish."
References :
Hi, I'm a Jew! Would you like to buy some life insurance for 65 cents per day and your rates will never increase?
References :
This was just a drill. In the event I were really a Jew I would have followed this up with "Mazel Tov!"

Christians don't have to mention their identity, they just have to keep talking about Jesus obsessively. If Jews simply talked about God, many people would assume they're Christian.
References :
@Most Rev. Dr. Doc Holiday, D.D
You are clearly mistaken. All that John wrote: Gospel ,Revelation and his letters where written near the end of the first century.
And kudos to qaz1qaz1qa for finding a way to post that extensive list in the allotted text allowed. That had to take work.
