Many JFS workshops are free, or provided at a minimum fee. Pre-registration is required for all workshops, and all sessions are held at JFS of Rockland County, 900 Route 45, Suite 2, New City, New York. Below is a listing of offerings that may or may not be available at your time of viewing. Please contact our office 845-354-2121 for additional information and to pre-register.
- Listening to Our Daughters
Girls approaching adolescence are at a critical point in their physical and emotional development. This workshop is for parents and educators and will include discussion of how we can enhance girls' sense of self. Maximum registration is 20 people.
- Considering Adoption... Questions and Answers
A 2-session workshop exploring the decision to adopt. Discussion includes making the decision and beginning the process.
- How to Survive the Challenges of Adolescent Children
A 4-session workshop for parents.
- Making Marriage Work
This workshop is for engaged couples or those seriously contemplating marriage. An exploration of issues in married life are addressed to encourage partners to dialogue. Both partners required to attend.
- Having a Wonderful Marriage
Married adults are introduced to tools and techniques of improving self-awareness, relaxation strategies, ways to neutralize distorted perceptions, and negotiation skills, in an effort to recognize and transform negative energy into powerful peaceful action. These actions will help them be more effective and influential in their marital relation as well as having their spouses be more responsive to their needs. It is strongly suggested that both partners attend, but is not a requirement.
- Support Group for Stay-at-Home Moms
How to remain sane while being at home with your children. Maximum registration is 12 people.
- Successfully Single: Divorced and Beyond
A workshop focusing on riding the "emotional rollercoaster of divorce".
- After Shiva, Moving On with Your Life
This structured 8-week program is for couples whose partner has died. It looks at life and death and grieving from the Jewish view. This program is funded in part by a grant from Hellman's Memorial Chapels.
- Widows/Widowers Discussion Group
A support system to 'move on' to after the After Shiva program to share thoughts and feelings in a safe, caring and understanding environment. An early bereavement group, grief counseling, or at least 12 months of widowhood is a prerequisite to joining this group.
