About JFS and its Mission

Jewish Family Service of Rockland County (JFS) is a family service agency that has been serving the Rockland community since 1987. As an independent not-for-profit and non-sectarian organization, the mission of JFS is:
  1. To provide for the social and emotional welfare of individuals and families in Rockland County, with particular sensitivity to the needs of the Jewish family.

  2. To strengthen, preserve and enhance the quality of individual and family life in a manner consistent with Jewish values.

  3. To make our services available without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.

  4. To assure that our services are provided in a confidential manner in compliance with state and federal privacy regulations.

social work and family services to individuals, families and groups experiencing a broad variety of personal problems and life cycle issues that they need help coping with. The agency uses a variety of forums, which include individual psychotherapy; couples and family counseling, therapeutic and discussion group sessions; educational workshops; and mediation services. Services to older adults are our specialty.

The agency offers help in a number of different and creative ways for the many personal and community issues that come through the JFS doors. A crisis team of social workers is available to assist in dealing with school and community emergencies, and in addition to clinical services, JFS workers regularly provide clients with advocacy, support, information, and referral services as appropriate. Outreach services are provided to the elderly and homebound in many ways. JFS service provision is multifaceted. Where JFS sees a need, it attempts to fill the gap.

About Our Team

The JFS staff is made up of New York State licensed social workers, who have MSW degrees from schools accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. The staff is continually updating their education in their field, and attend regular and ongoing JFS supervision provided by a licensed psychiatrist and LCSW, DCSW college instructor.

Fees and Insurance

For individuals or families who cannot afford to pay full fee for counseling sessions, JFS offers a sliding fee scale based on family size and income. Many of the JFS programs are offered at no fee, some at a nominal fee. Many insurance companies recognize JFS and the agency will facilitate insurance reimbursement forms upon request. JFS accepts Medicare. JFS is supported in part by the Jewish Federation of Rockland County. It is also supported through, and dependent upon, generous contributions of county residents who are committed to the Jewish community.
