Is it supreme arrogance for Christians to assume their interpretation of the Jewish holy book is the truth?

Iѕ іt thе same аѕ going up tο J.K. Rowling аnd telling hеr thаt уουr interpretation οf thе Aggravate Potter books іѕ better thаn hеrѕ?

I rесkοn іt іѕ absolutely arrogant fοr anyone tο impose thеіr interpretation οf anything onto anyone еlѕе. Thеrе іѕ nothing incorrect, though, іn studying, аnd living bу уουr οwn interpretations.
And btw, уουr example οf J.K. Rowling, іѕ nοt a ехсеllеnt one. I’ve bееn tο a number οf events whеrе authors speak, аnd take qυеѕtіοnѕ frοm thе audience. A ехсеllеnt number οf thеm аrе interested іn hearing hοw thе readers interpret thеіr work.
Peace аnd Namaste!

It only bothers me when they take it a step further, and try to force their interpretation onto society at large through laws or into public schools. Now that’s a bit obsessive.

Certainly, and even more so when they claim that God has blinded Jews to the truth.

And maybe worse when they want to worship a God who would do such a thing.

No. The God they worship is the SAME as our god. We just believe that the Messiah has already come. They are still waiting for them while we flail our arms saying "Look! Look! Jesus is the Messiah! You don’t have to wait anymore!"

Do you reckon all Jews interpret the Torah and Tanakh the same?

    You couldn’t be more incorrect.

israel had abandon god and his teachings many times through out their history

And btw, your example of J.K. Rowling, is not a excellent one. I’ve been to a number of events where authors speak, and take questions from the audience. A excellent number of them are interested in hearing how the readers interpret their work.

Not automatically. Karaite Jews, for example, don’t agree with the interpretations reached by rabbinical Jews regarding even which texts are valid. Samaritans don’t agree with Jews, either. Rabbinical Jews don’t automatically agree with one another on many points. Unless we find a way to journey back to the time when these texts were written, we really don’t know whose interpretation, if any, of this or that point is right. The Talmud itself wasn’t codified until long after the time Jesus lived.

Most SUNday type pro-claimed christians don’t even read their bible (obviously), so it matters not to them that it is a Hebrew book in its entirety. They trust pastors who themselves are not knowledgeable in the written word. They have a splendid social club going. The concept is simple: "you tell me what I want to hear and you can take from my wallet".

For the grown-up denominations of Christianity; Catholics, Orthodox and also Lutherans, the history of the Jewish people and their teachings are studied, educated and preserved as well as the Sumerian teachings before that. In Fundamentalism (most other Protestant denominations) the interpretation is up to the individual and usually taken factually. A very small minority of Christians in the world are comprised of Fundamentalist Christians though the majority of them live in America. Cheers!

No, not at all. Neverlutionists come here all fired up attacking our beliefs all the time, they surely believe they are right and we are incorrect. Everybody believes they have the right belief; that is what humans do.

Christians got their interpretation from God; besides, it is a most likely rational interpretation. The Jews have really abandoned their former beliefs; there is no temple worship, no sacrifices, no festivals in the ancient manner. Their Judaism has small to do with the holy book you mention, the Tanakh, our OT.

I don’t believe that my interpretation of the Bible is completely right. It takes time to fully know the Bible, and may really never happen for me, as there are innumerable symbols in there. I try not to take upon yourself anything since when people take upon yourself things, they are usually proven incorrect, and quickly. I leave myself open to any interpretation that God may bring to me.

Yes it is. Christians reckon they know everything, that everything THEY say is right .. and well, that they pretty much rule the world and everything in it.

No it’s not the same. The Jewish interpretation is not on writings that the Jewish interpreters themselves wrote.

If J.K. Rowling wrote commentary on her own book, and I thought her interpretation was incorrect, that would be one thing.
If J.K. Rowling wrote commentary on Shakespeare, and I thought her interpretation was incorrect, that would be another.

Being Jewish doesn’t give you some miraculous insight into the texts or B.C. Judaism or anything. Despite the well loved and prejudiced opinion that it does. Some atheist Jews, by goodness of being born of a Jewish mother, really believe they know more about B.C. Judaism than the theologians and Doctors of the Catholic Church. Sorry they don’t, and most Jews don’t either.
