That was part of the misinformation spread during the chaos of 9/11. The truck stopped on the GW join turned out to have no explosives surrounded by it. The men surrounded by came under suspicion because they, like many people, started filming the burning WTC. Though, these men were detained, investigated and cleared. Your "truck bomb" comment merely reflects one of many unsubstantiated rumors from 9/11. People have a tendency to embellish from small details. The fact that emergency staff were trading unsubstantiated tales during the chaos of 9/11 is not surprising. In such an environment, the alacrity of information dissemination is more vital than its veracity.

The radio dispatch recording reports that one of the trucks exploded, after two individuals ran from it and were then captured. This occurred some distance away from the WTC.
There were no reports of finding evidence of an exploded van.
And yes, Dan Rather was shortly proven to be a fraud. Remember the faked Bush epistle? Rather was fired.
The way the WTC towers fell, there is no way a truck bomb at the base of the construction contributed to it. The buildings collpased top down. There was no structural failure at the base of the construction until the construction fell inside and pushed the columns outwards.
