How is the story of the Great Flood (Noah) from the Sumerian story and Jewish story different?

I don’t know the specifics of the Sumerian great flood but just because it was written first doesn’t mean the jewish story copied from it. The Sumerian story was probably the first widely know recorded version. I guess you could basically say that the Sumerian story was copyright infringement.

I dont know the specifics of either really. But I know that they were both worldwide, they both had 2 of every animal, and the sumerian one was invented first, so the jewish one probably copied the Sumerian one.

Well, be fair; most remakes are at least a little different. I mean the new Transformers movies might be based on the old Transformers cartoons, but there are at least different characters and specific plot points, even though the key themes are identical.

The Sumerian version (The Epic of Gilgamesh) was a poem and never meant to be taken literally, the biblical version was blatant plagiarism of the original.

While the Sumerian version…the Epic of Gilgamesh…may predate the Biblical account, there is a major flaw in it’s version. The Gilgamesh "Ark" is described as a cube shape and totally unseaworthy for an extended voyage on rough seas whereas the Biblical Ark’s dimensions have been studied by a non-Christian Korean engineering firm and found to have the optimum dimensions for a ship designed to hold up and float on rough seas for an extended period of time.
It’s more likely that the Gilgamesh version is simply a flawed, modified and corrupted retelling of the actual Flood incident by someone who did not have direct knowledge of the event or modified the story to fit their own culture. There’s probably a good reason why God did not inspire the correct version to be written down first or immediately after the Flood…it was so that other local cultures could not copy it and claim it as their own.

It’s also interesting that the Weld-Blundell prism, which contains a list of Sumerian kings, also verifies the Bilbcal accounts of long life-spans before the Flood and some of the geneologies in the Bible. There are also many flood legends from almost every culture on earth …several dozen of which parrallel the Bilbical Flood account very closely. In classical Chinese language dating to around 2500 BC, the pictograph for the word "boat" contains three symbols…..vessel, the numer 8 and people…which seems to allude to Noah and his family on the Ark.
